Case Study

Branding a Sportsbook Platform

Overview

I led the branding and product design for a digital sportsbook, creating a cohesive visual identity and product experience that could support rapid growth, strict regulatory requirements, and a highly competitive market. The goal was to establish a strong, trustworthy brand while delivering a clear, engaging, and accessible betting experience across platforms.

The Challenge

The sportsbook operated in a crowded and regulation-heavy environment where credibility, clarity, and speed were critical. The existing brand lacked distinction and consistency across touchpoints, which impacted user trust and product usability. At the same time, the platform needed to support complex betting data, live updates, and frequent feature releases without compromising performance or compliance.

Key challenges included:

  • Creating a brand that felt confident and modern without appearing aggressive or exclusionary
  • Ensuring the identity scaled across web, mobile, and marketing channels
  • Balancing expressive branding with high information density and usability
  • Aligning brand expression with technical and regulatory constraints

My Role

Product Designer, Brand Lead
I was responsible for brand strategy, visual identity, UI foundations, and close collaboration with product, engineering, and marketing teams.

Process

Discovery & Strategy
I began with stakeholder workshops, market analysis, and user research to understand brand positioning, user expectations, and regulatory boundaries. This phase defined the brand’s core attributes—trustworthy, fast, and approachable—and established clear design principles to guide both branding and product decisions.

Brand Identity
I designed a flexible visual identity including:

  • Logo and symbol system
  • Color palette optimized for accessibility and contrast
  • Typography tailored for readability in data-dense interfaces
  • Iconography and motion guidelines

The identity was intentionally modular, allowing the product to express energy during live betting while remaining calm and clear in transactional flows.

Product Integration
Rather than treating branding as a separate layer, I embedded the brand directly into the product UI. This included component-level styling, layout systems, and interaction patterns designed to support real-time data and rapid user decisions. I worked closely with front-end engineers to ensure the brand system translated cleanly into reusable components.

Design System
To ensure consistency and scalability, I created a design system that connected brand guidelines with functional UI components. This system enabled faster iteration, reduced design debt, and aligned teams across product, marketing, and development.

Outcome
  • A cohesive and recognizable brand across product and marketing channels
  • Improved clarity and usability in high-pressure betting flows
  • Faster feature delivery through a shared design system
  • Stronger internal alignment between design, product, and engineering
  • The rebrand positioned the sportsbook as a credible and modern platform, supporting both user trust and long-term product scalability.
Key Learnings
  • Branding in regulated, data-heavy products must prioritize clarity and trust over visual noise
  • Embedding brand principles into systems and components ensures long-term consistency
  • Close designer–developer collaboration is essential when branding directly impacts performance and usability
